Friends of Paws in Prison
Mission statement
Paws in Prison educates inmates for greater responsibility and empathy

through the rescue and training of shelter dogs to be adopted by the public.
Serving Lockhart, Seguin, San Antonio, Austin and surrounding areas, Friends of Paws in Prison is the 501(c)3 nonprofit set up to support the Paws in Prison program at the Lockhart Correctional Facility, an all women's prison.  We cannot exist without your support.  None of your tax dollars are spent supporting the care and training of the dogs.

Friends of Paws in Prison supports the dogs and the women who train them from entry into the program, through their training, dog adoptions and beyond. The female inmates learn how to train the dogs in basic obedience skills, but they also have an opportunity to learn intangible life skills such as patience, empathy, responsibility, trust, accountability, and compassion.  These are skills they bring with them into their families and communities after their release from prison.

Through your donation to Friends of Paws in Prison, expenses necessary to run the Paws in Prison program are provided such as pet supplies, vet bills, and administrative expenses.  All Friends of Paws in Prison board members are unpaid volunteers.  With your support we can grow the program to rescue more dogs and more women.  We also have big plans underway, such as providing scholarships to paroled inmates to further their education in the animal care industry.
